So, it seems that I’ve taken a very long, unintended break from posting. I always intend to, it’s always on the ‘to do’ list, but there there is just sooo much on that list and so little time…..I’ll get better, I promise!!
So, here I am at my computer on this lovely Easter Sunday afternoon and I thought that I’d begin with a fun lower leg piece that I was able to complete not too long ago. We started with a really cool graphic from a very old, threadbare tee shirt that had been much worn and much loved over the years, by my client, Ben. The graphic on the shirt was a hippy-ish sort of hiker guy; it reminded me of some 1970’s Whole Earth Catalogue cover. I was unable to find any other version of the design ( no, not even online!!) and so I resorted to scanning the tee shirt and redrawing it as best I could, even though alot of the details to the art had long been washed or worn away.
So with that portion of the tattoo completed as a stand alone piece, after some time, my client decided that he wanted to carry everything around his leg for something more complete. He wanted to find just the right female counterpart for this fatherly nature guy, and finally settled on a photograph of Bjork, looking very playful and pixyish. What a perfect addition!! While generally, there is so much more that we tattooers can do with larger images on skin, I do especially like to do some small images sometimes : they have to be reinterpreted, for sure, but can be a fun challenge.
I used several photographs and images as inspiration for the environmental landscape that the two of them share. I think that we created an interesting and unique tattoo- A big thank you to Ben for such unique ideas and for letting me run with this one a little bit!!
Take care and thanks for taking the time to look!!
